The activities of the Democratic Party in Newton County are directed by an Executive Committee. These officers serve two-year terms and are elected from and by members of the Newton County Democratic Committee. Elections are held by December 31 of every even-numbered year, with terms beginning January 1 of the following year.
Members of State Committee do not have to be part of their county district committees to be elected to state position. County members elected are responsible for attending state committee meetings and reporting back to county party.
Newton County Democratic Committee
The Newton County Democratic Committee (aka, the "Full Committee") consists of 30 local party members who are elected to serve four-year terms as the governing body of the Democratic Party in Newton County. The committee is made up of six members for each of the five County Commission districts. For each district, half of the committee members are elected in Presidential Election years, and half are elected in Gubernatorial (Governor) Election years.
